In The City-- a general prompt for anyone at the beach

He didn't know what 'home' was any longer.

Tenya Iida had resided in Trench long enough for the seasons to change-- the heat and coastal humidity of summer had slowed into a brisk fall that had Tenya instinctively looking towards starting a new semester at UA, a continuation of his life, his duties, and his ongoing education to become the Hero that his brother was. Yet, in Trench, Tenya found himself in a rare situation where he could exist by his own terms... as Tenya, not the man who was to become Turbo Hero: Ingenium when he attained his licensure.

It was strange. He wasn't sure how he felt. The only matter he was certain of was that Trench needed more help than was available within the city itself.

... Oh, how his classmates at UA would hardly be surprised if they could see him now.

The little cat that had appeared by his side when he arrived, a calico he had taken to calling Tama after an old Shinto deity of the subways, was curled in the hood of his jacket while he jogged over the shoreline that brisk morning and mused over what had become of his life.

Although his world still needed 'Ingenium'... Trench needed anyone with the will and heart to be a Hero.

Needing A Hero-- A fighting prompt

The Moon Presence was the only sign of hope amid the desolation of the Beast attack that had befallen Trenchwood. Corruption ran rampant through trench, and at times it felt as if the surges rose and fell with the ebb of the tide. Having grown up on an island nation, Tenya was no stranger to the power of the tides-- and it was chilling how chaos rose and fell within that pattern. Speed may have been his gift, but not even he was fast enough to help the architects and agriculture workers from saving their fields.

Fires ate through the crops, and Tenya was taking one last lap around in search of any stragglers. Food was important-- but survival was moreso. Spotting a figure at the far end of the field, he skid to a stop, heels kicking up dust and ash, and frantically sought to get the individual's attention.

"Hey, let's keep moving! It's not worth it to stay any longer!"

He'd carry them out if he had to. No one was going to get left behind

"Safety in numbers: one of the oldest of humanity's tactics. I may prefer to hunt alone, but times will come when one must forgo one's preferences," the other replies, falling in step with Ilda. He glances about slowly, like a crow keeping an eye out for predators. "Is it known how these fires started?"

"Some prey require stealthy tracking, easier done by a solitary hunter. Others are more swiftly taken by more than one Hunter," the other says, drawing a blade from somewhere inside his feathered cloak, keeping it at the ready. "I am as good as two Hunters.

A light scoff under the other's breath. "Perhaps some Beast appeared as a fire-breathing dragon. Or some over-zealous Hunters tried to flush out a Beast by setting fire to some bracken. At times, the Hunters can be as wild as their quarry."

Something might screech at some near distance...

The other chuckles, a dry sound muffled by the mask. "In my experience, most villains have the best of intentions, while the heroes often aren't aware that they risk becoming as bad as the villains they oppose. But... different rules could apply to different worlds.

"You walk ahead. I'll cover you from behind," the other adds, glancing behind them, keeping the blade at the ready now.

"No matter what world we hail from, some things remain unchanged, don't they?" the bird-clad stranger muses. "I would ask and share some of my own experience, but that's for a quiet moment in a tavern, over a bottle of wine.

The other reaches under his feathered cloak with his free hand and takes out a fair-sized glass flask containing an odd greenish fluid, weighting it in his palm. "I can create some cover as well, if it comes to that."

"Better to cover all angles and outlets, than to leave one open and so leave us vulnerable," the stranger says, keeping the flask low by his side.

The screech rises again, and something with too many legs with too many joints and one mouth too many lumbers out of the shadows. The thing is badly scorched and as much in pain as it is enraged.

"Shall I flank while you take point? Or would you rather flank?" the bird-clad stranger asks.

"With those injuries, this would constitute a mercy kill," the stranger murmurs, spiriting the flask under his cloak and raising his blade.

He rushes the Beast, nearly getting underneath it and slashing at the back of the joints of one leg-like limb. The thing roars and staggers as it tries to turn on him, its main mouth howling. He darts aside, avoiding the main mouth and slashes at the joints of another leg. The Beast is so distracted trying to attack the corvid stranger that it doesn't seem to notice its attacker has a companion...

The bird-clad stranger tilts his head for a split second at Tenya's attack. No time for lengthy admiration. He darts sideways and vaults onto the Beast's back. This distracts it from turning on Tenya, causing it to buck as best it can, then trying to turn the head nearest to the intruder on its back. The stranger draws his blade, hanging on with one hand, poised to stab it, but watching Tenya as best he can while the things writhes in pain.

The other nods and stabs the thing in the back of its head, where the spine and the brain box meet. A spurt of blood gushes out and the masked stranger stabs it again, causing the head to sag. The last of the thing's legs buckle and the stranger leaps clear of the toppling body, tucking and rolling before righting himself in a crouch some feet away. The corpse twitches, but the eyes are growing dull. The stranger approaches the Beast then takes a flask from somewhere inside his cloak. uncorking it and holding it to one of the Beast's still-oozing wounds.

"You're swift. Have you considered taking a weapon?" the stranger asks, glancing up from his work.

The stranger corks the bottle and tucks it inside his cloak, then wipes the blade clean before sheathing it.

"In this place, it would be wise to take up one and learn to use it well. A blade's only as good as the skill of the one wielding it," the stranger says. "You seem like a quick learn as a fighter, though I take it you haven't been here for long? You'll see many terrible things here."

He looks around them, clearly keeping watch for any more threats, but the worst comes from the fire. "We may have done as much as we can here. Shall we depart for safer ground?"
